Amusement Park T

The reception near the parking lot

In the 80s, Sweden experienced good economic times. And as a result of this good economic period, a whole range of theme parks, cinemas and shopping centers were built in Sweden. But a short decade later, the good times over, Sweden experienced economic decline, unemployment was higher and many of theme parks, cinemas and shopping centers were closed down and abandoned. Some were later rebuilt, used for other purposes or demolished. But still there are numerous abandoned buildings and parks all over Sweden. In other words, Sweden is an exciting country for urbexere.

The amusement park I visited the south of Sweden, not far from the border to Norway. (A little fun fact: This part of Sweden was part of Norway in the Viking Age.) This amusement park is located a little way into the woods, completely hidden from public roads. It includes water slides, various play equipment, mini-golf and many other things.

A pool table stood alone and frozen one night I stopped by the park.

One of the billiard balls was left on the pool table.

It was a very large water slide at the park.

The park also contained a variety of amusements for children.

Tanum Amusement Park

Tanum amusement, located just outside of Strömstad in Sweden, will be demolished and rebuilt for holiday homes in 2011. I was there earlier tonight and saw the sad news hanging over the old “Tanum Summerland” sign. You should be quick if you had planned a trip there.

By the time I arrived at Tanum amusement, having been in Ullared municipality, it was pitch dark and really too late to take pictures. But with car headlights as light sources, I got a couple of pictures taken.

In the middle of the woods there was a frozen pool table with a single ball frozen to the table.
